Your Turn: Vote for the 101 Best Hotel Restaurants Around the World

Your Turn: Vote for the 101 Best Hotel Restaurants Around the World

The Daily Meal presented its first annual 101 Best Hotel Restaurants Around the World, a carefully curated collection of the world’s most exemplary epicurean endeavors, in August. Now, we need your help.

With hundreds of innovative restaurants to choose from, it was a culinary challenge to whittle the list down to a select 101. Now, it’s your turn to rank the list, which seeks to pay homage to the world’s most delicious hotel feasts.

After checking out The Daily Meal’s 101 Best Hotel Restaurants Around the World slideshow, rate your favorite restaurants from the 101 Best Hotel Restaurants Around the World by completing the 101 Best Hotel Restaurants Around the World Survey.

Recreational restaurant reviewers and armchair travelers alike are invited to rate their favorites. Rate your favorite restaurants from one star for OK to five stars for outstanding. Voting begins at 7 p.m. (EST) Sept. 11 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 5. Once the voting period ends, The Daily Meal will tabulate the results and reveal the People’s Choice Ranking of 101 Best Hotel Restaurants on Oct. 10.

Those who vote are automatically entered into the The Daily Meal #101BestHotelRestos People’s Choice Sweepstakes for a chance to win a $50 American Express gift card or an autographed copy of the book Ferran: The Inside Story of El Bulli and the Man Who Reinvented Food by The Daily Meal’s editorial director Colman Andrews.

Which restaurant will make it to the top of the list? That’s up to you.

The Daily Meal #101BestHotelRestos People’s Choice Sweepstakes

1. How to Enter: The Daily Meal #101BestHotelRestos People’s Choice Sweepstakes (the “Sweepstakes”) begins at 7:00 PM EST (Eastern Time (“EST”)) on September 11, 2012 and ends at 11:59 PM EST on October 5, 2012 (the “Sweepstakes Period”). To Enter: Click on the Survey Monkey link:, submit entrant’s valid email address, and rank at least one restaurant on the list of The Daily Meal’s 101 Best Hotel Restaurants Around the World. Limit one survey per entrant. Ranking more than one restaurant does not increase the odds of winning. Online Entries must be received by 11:59 PM EST on October 5, 2012. The Daily, Inc. (“Sponsor”) will not verify receipt of entries. All entries submitted become the sole property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned. The Sweepstakes is governed by OurSite’s privacy policy, which is available on the Web Site.

All Survey Monkey Entries (“Entries”) become the property of Sponsors and will not be acknowledged. Entries generated by a script, macro, or other automated means will be disqualified. Entries that are incomplete, garbled, corrupted, or unintelligible for any reason, including, but not limited to, computer or network malfunction or congestion, are void and will not be accepted. In case of a dispute over the identity of an entrant who made a potentially winning entry, Sponsors reserve the right to deem that the entry was made by the registered subscriber of the email address submitted at the time of entry. Entry constitutes permission (except where prohibited by law) to use entrant’s name, city, state, likeness, image, and/or voice for purposes of advertising, promotion, and publicity in any and all media now or hereafter known, throughout the world in perpetuity, without additional compensation, notification, permission, or approval.

2. Eligibility: To enter the Sweepstakes you must be a lawful permanent resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia and be 21 years of age or older as of September 11, 2012. Sweepstakes is void outside of the 50 United States (and the District of Columbia), in Puerto Rico, U.S. territories, possessions and commonwealths, and where restricted or prohibited by law. The Sweepstakes, and any web site pages and advertisements relating thereto, is intended for viewing only within the United States. You are not authorized to participate in the Sweepstakes if you are not located within the United States. Employees of Sponsor and other participating partners, their affiliated companies, parents, subsidiaries and advertising and promotion agencies, (collectively, “Sweepstakes Entities”), and their immediate families and members of their households, are ineligible to participate in this Sweepstakes.

3. Drawing and Notification: The Prize Winner(s) will be selected from all eligible entries received in a random drawing held on or about October 8, 2012 by Sponsor, whose decisions are final and binding in all respects. Odds of winning a prize depends upon the number of eligible entries received. The potential Winner will be notified by email and/or mail within approximately fourteen (14) days of the drawing. If a potential winner cannot be reached within seven (7) calendar days from the first notification attempt, then such person shall be disqualified and an alternate winner will be selected.

4. Prizes: One (1) Grand Prize winner will receive One (1) $50 American Express Gift Card. Approximate retail value of the Grand Prize is $50. Three (3) First Prize Winners will receive One (1) autographed copy by Colman Andrews of his book Ferran: The Inside Story of El Bulli and the Man Who Reinvented Food. Approximate retail value of the First Prize is $16. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if the Grand Prize or First Prizes cannot be awarded as described for any reason. Taxes, gratuities, and other expenses not specifically identified in these Official Rules are the sole responsibilities of the Grand Prize Winner and First Prize Winners. No transfer or substitution for the prize allowed except at Sponsor’s sole discretion.

5. Prize Conditions: Prize Winners will be required to execute an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Liability Release and a Publicity Release (“Affidavit/Release”). Such documents must be returned by the date and/or time indicated within such documents. If the potential Prize Winners fail to return such documents within that time, or if an entrant is found to be ineligible, or if he/she does not comply with the Official Rules, then the potential prize winner will be disqualified and an alternate winner will be selected. If prize notification is returned as undeliverable, this will result in disqualification and an alternate winner will be selected. All federal, state or other tax liabilities (including income taxes) arising from this Sweepstakes will be the sole responsibility of the Prize Winners. Except where prohibited by law, the Prize Winners’ entry and acceptance of the Prize constitutes permission for the Sweepstakes Entities to use said prize winners’ names, photographs, likeness, statements, biographical information, voice, and city and state address on a worldwide basis, and in all forms of media, in perpetuity, without further compensation.

6. Sweepstakes Conditions: This Sweepstakes is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor, which shall be final and waive any right to claim ambiguity in the Sweepstakes or these Official Rules. The Prize Winners and entrants also agree to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless the Sweepstakes Entities and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents from and against any claims, damages or liability due to any injuries, damages or losses to any person (including personal injury or death) or property of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, misuse or use of the respective prize or participation in any Sweepstakes-related activity or participation in this Sweepstakes, or any claims based on rights of publicity, rights of privacy and/or merchandise delivery.

7. Limitations of Liability: In case of dispute as to the identity of any entrant, entry will be declared made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at time of entry. “Authorized Account Holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational, institution, etc.) responsible for assigning email addresses or the domain associated with the submitted email address. Any potential prize winner may be requested to provide Sponsor with proof that such winner is the authorized account holder of the email address associated with the winning entry. Sweepstakes Entities are not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, undeliverable or incomplete Online Entries due to system errors or failures, or faulty transmissions or other telecommunications malfunctions and/or Online Entries not received resulting from any hardware or software failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incomplete or garbled computer or telephone transmissions, typographical or system errors and failures, or faulty transmissions, or for any problems or technical malfunctions. Sponsor may prohibit an entrant from participating in the Sweepstakes or winning a prize if, in its sole discretion, it determines that said entrant is attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Sweepstakes by cheating, hacking, deception, or other unfair playing practices (including the use of automated quick entry programs) or intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other entrants or Sponsor representatives. If for any reason this Sweepstakes is not capable of running as planned, including, but not limited to, infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud or any other causes beyond the reasonable control of Sponsor which corrupt in any way or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, fulfillment or proper conduct of the promotion, then Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Sweepstakes and select a winner by randomly drawing from those entries received up to the cancellation/suspension date. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE THE WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE SWEEPSTAKES MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES (INCLUDING ATTORNEY’S FEES) FROM ANY SUCH ENTRANT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.

Kanopi Restaurant-atop the Ritz-Carlton Westchester Hotel-Chooses Martin Lawrence Galleries to Further Enhance the Superb Tastes it Offers

Showcasing art in restaurants is hardly a new concept, so when Kanopi Chef Anthony Goncalves and his team were searching for inspiration to decorate a space that features views that are impossible to outdo, they naturally sought the assistance of Martin Lawrence Galleries (MLG known for works by Warhol, Haring, Dalí, Chagall, Miró, Picasso and other masters. MLG then went about curating works that best compliment the natural scenery visible through Kanopi’s floor-to-ceiling windows.

Chefs are like artists, and the works selected for Kanopi were fueled by Chef Anthony Goncalves’ connections to history, artists, and people. Upon stepping off the glass elevator, diners are greeted by the works of Liudmila Kondakova, whose paintings are rich in clarity and reflect in their extraordinary precision-a sense of artistic and spiritual well-being.

Fine art can be crucial a restaurant’s overall aesthetic and environment while, they dine people have the rare luxury of time to appreciate their surroundings. In fact, over the years, MLG artworks have graced the walls of restaurants around the globe, with restaurants becoming some of the world’s best art galleries.

“Cooking is like painting or writing a song. Just as there are only so many notes or colors, there are only so many flavors – it’s how you combine them that sets you apart”. Wolfgang Puck

Images by renowned printmaker Bradley Faine, whose embedded text often stands in sharp contrast to his visuals, and the brilliance of trompl’oeil pop artiste Philippe Bertho, adorn the walls of Kanopi’s Marquee, South Space.

The perimeter seating areas of Kanopi-overlooking the Long Island Sound-feature the romantic works of critically acclaimed photorealist Douglas Hofmann. Four works by world-famous Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami carry you visually down a hall and offer a glimpse into his magnificent works of art which reflect his craft and insightful engagement with popular culture, folklore and pop art style, all mixed with traditional Japanese culture.

Outside of the kitchen where Chef Anthoney Goncalves creates and captures the essence of cooking, Connecticut born and raised artist-Robert Deyber has created works that move you in and out of visual themes and storylines like a tasting menu, revealing the artist’s sense of humor, each painting a visual rendering of a clever turn on a common phrase.

The awe-inspiring view of the New York City skyline displays the work of artist and composer, Mark Kostabi, a leading figure in the East Village art scene. They contrast visual works by artist French-born artist, François Fressiner, whose passion is to paint the human figure in all of its intricacies.

With the Hudson Valley as your backdrop, California and New York artist, Kenny Scharf works inject elements of street culture into mainstream contemporary art. Sharing the view is French Canadian artist René Lalonde, with his blend of Surrealism, Cubism, and Fauvism. The Hudson Valley space offers the work of artist Kerry Hallam, whose bold palette portrays his voracious appetite for life.

“I cherish our relationship and partnership with Martin Lawrence. It has fueled many menu inspiration- from storylines to colors, shapes, and styles.” Chef Anthony Abracos

Fine dining, stunning views and original fine art curated by Martin Lawrence Galleries await you at Kanopi located on the top floor of the Ritz Carlton Hotel in the heart of Westchester County, New York.

Traditional Gold, Senior Gold, and Classic Gold are not eligible. Eligible purchases must be charged to a Card Member on the enrolled Card Account for the benefit to apply. Purchases by both the Basic Card Member and Additional Card Members on the eligible Card Account are eligible for statement credits. However, each Card Account is eligible for up to a $10 statement credit per month, for a total of $120 per calendar year in statement credits across all Cards on the Account. Participating partners are Grubhub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth's Chris Steak House, Boxed, and participating Shake Shack locations. Excludes Shake Shack locations in ballparks, stadiums, airports and racetracks. To view all participating partners, visit Not valid on gift cards or merchandise purchases. Only valid for transactions completed in the United States of America, and US Territories. Please allow 2-4 weeks after an eligible purchase is charged to your Card Account for statement credit(s) to be posted to the Account. Please call the number on the back of the Card if statement credits have not posted after 4 weeks from the date of purchase. American Express relies on the merchant to process transactions within the same calendar month that you made the purchase in order to apply the $10 monthly statement credit in the month that it was intended. For example, if you make an eligible purchase on the last day of the month and the merchant doesn't process that transaction until the next day, the transaction date will reflect the next day's date and the statement credit would be applied in the following month. Purchases posted after 120 days from the transaction date will not be considered for a Dining Benefit credit. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as eligible for the benefit, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not be eligible if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it. To be eligible for this benefit, Card Account(s) must not be canceled and not past due at the time of statement credit fulfillment. If a charge for an eligible purchase is included in a Pay Over Time balance on your Card Account, the statement credit associated with that charge may not be applied to that Pay Over Time balance. Instead, the statement credit may be applied to your Pay In Full balance. For additional information, call the number on the back of your Card.

Basic Card Members on a Consumer U.S. American Express® Gold Card are eligible for $10 in Uber Cash each month ("Amex Benefit"), subject to these Terms and Conditions. To receive this benefit, you must have downloaded the latest version of the Uber App and your eligible American Express Gold Card must be a method of payment in your Uber account. The Amex Benefit may only be used in the United States.

To be eligible for the Amex Benefit, your Card Account must not be canceled or past due. American Express reserves the right to suspend your eligibility for the Amex Benefit if we suspect any violation or abuse.

To continue to receive the Amex Benefit, the details for your eligible Card must be kept up to date in your Uber Account.

Cards added to your Uber account through a third party such as Apple Pay or PayPal will not be eligible. An eligible American Express Gold Card may receive the Amex Benefit on one Uber account. If the same Card is added to multiple Uber accounts, only the first Uber account to which the Card is added will receive the Amex Benefit.

If your American Express Card details change, you will need to make required updates to your Card details in your Uber payment profile before the end of the current month to ensure you remain enrolled in the Amex Benefit. If you do not update your Card details prior to the first day of the following month, you may need to re-enroll to continue to receive your Amex benefit.

It may take up to 24 hours for the Amex Benefit to become available in your Uber account after your eligible Card has been added to that account. The Amex Benefit is found within your Uber Cash balance. In order to use the Amex Benefit, Uber Cash must be turned on. If Uber Cash is turned on when you request a ride, Uber Cash will appear above the confirmation button. If Uber Cash does not appear about the confirmation button, tap on the current payment option and turn on Uber Cash.

The Amex Benefit may be applied to all vehicle types with Uber and orders on Uber Eats where Uber Cash can be applied. If your Uber Cash balance does not satisfy the cost of your ride or order, the primary payment method on your Uber account will be charged for the difference.

The Amex Benefit will not apply to previous Uber transactions and cannot be used when paying with an UberFAMILY profile. New and existing Uber users are eligible. Uber will apply the Amex Benefit at the point of sale and it will be displayed on your emailed receipt. There is no limit to the number of transactions you may apply your Amex Benefit to each month, up to a total of $10 per month.

Your monthly Amex Benefit expires at 11:59 PM Hawaii Standard Time on the last day of each calendar month. Unused balance in Uber Cash from your Amex Benefit will not carry over to the following month. Your Amex Benefit will be applied for the month in which the transaction is completed. If a transaction is eligible for another promotion that you have added to your Uber account, the promotion will be applied before your Amex Benefit.

Certain other types of balances in Uber Cash may be applied to the cost of your ride or order prior to your Amex Benefit in Uber Cash. For purposes of fulfilling this benefit, American Express will share with Uber certain information about your Card, including the Card type, and updated Card information from time to time. If you do not wish to receive the Amex Benefit, please call the number on the back of your Card. If you do not see the Amex Benefit in Uber Cash by 5:00 PM Hawaii Standard Time on first of the calendar month, call the number on the back of your Card for assistance.

Timber, brass, and marble shipped from South Africa create a bright and breezy ambience in this spot at the shiny Al Wasl mall. Beige walls and rustic-chic interiors lend a charming and welcoming vibe that attracts families on weekend afternoons. The extensive menu is filled with comforting, simple dishes like scrambled eggs, mini beef burgers, and baked pasta. It can be hard to avoid carbs here—the lobster parmesan is decadent—but don't overlook delicious salads of kale, barley, and butternut squash.

Arguably the most romantic restaurant in Dubai, Pierchic is predictably over the top. The above-water restaurant looks straight into the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab. The menu is comprised of high-end seafood dishes like a $250 platter of crustaceans, seared king scallops with foie gras, and gin-and-tonic-cured salmon with dill pollen and crispy rice. There's beef, lamb, and other meat too, but if you don't want to make a decision, go for the $190 signature tasting menu.

Pizza Hut

In an attempt to push the menu beyond slices, Pizza Hut expanded into pastas, salads, and something called P'Zones, which are calzone-like concoctions with more than 1,000 calories each. The salads aren't much better, and the pastas are actually worse because they have about a half day's worth of calories. Aside from their Fit 'N Delicious pizzas and the bone-in wings, they don't serve anything that's suitable for someone trying to lose 10 pounds, let alone eat a clean diet. Considering that other chains like Pizza Fusion carry organic ingredients sourced from local farms and gluten- and lactose-free menu items, we see no reason the Hut can't up its health game.

Will Minnesota designer be a cut above the rest in topiary competition series?

When you send a Minnesotan into a topiary challenge, what forms do you think she would decide to create from plants using shears, welding tools and her own green thumbs?

A fish and a stag, of course.

“I’m from Minnesota,” Meghan Petricka explained to Martha Stewart, one of the “judgiaries” (new word?) on “Clipped,” a new competition series that launched on discovery+ on May 12.

“This is the first-ever search for America’s greatest topiary artist,” says the show’s host, actor Michael Urie, in the intro.

Topiary is the art of shaping plants, trees and shrubs.

“What’s exciting to me about topiary is that you take nature and shape it into something very, very beautiful,” Stewart says in the premiere episode.

Petrcika, 37, of Eden Prairie, first got excited about plants in her grandma’s garden.

“Picking peas right off the vine is one of my favorite memories,” says Petricka.

She grew up gardening alongside both her mom and her grandma in Montgomery, Minn., a small town in Le Sueur County, located about an hour south of the Twin Cities.

Her grandmother taught her the lessons of the Great Depression.

“She was a pioneer of sustainability,” Petricka says. “She would use rain basins to water her garden, versus turning on the hose. She composted. She was an avid propagator — she could create anything from nothing. I spent many hours helping her in her garden.”

By the time she headed off to the Twin Cities to study typography and design at art school, Petricka already had an education from her mom and grandma about topics including edible flowers, pickling and canning and plant propagation.

Her passions of art, design and horticulture ended up blossoming at Plantscape, a commercial landscaping firm where she works as a project manager.

“My work has been at hotels, baseball stadiums, restaurants,” Petricka says.

Although her employer is based in Minneapolis, the projects go far beyond Minnesota. It was a New York contact who referred the people behind “Clipped” to Petricka when they were looking for topiary artists to cast.

“They said, ‘We know this girl in Minnesota,’ ” Petricka says with a laugh.

“I’m known as a person who isn’t afraid to take on really challenging projects,” she says. “I have a can-do attitude.”

This attitude was needed on the set of the show. No spoilers here, but the first episode includes a carousel challenge.

“It was a super fun time,” says Petricka.

We’ll let you know if Petricka, one of seven designers competing, ends up winning the competition (which comes with a prize of $50,000).

For now, Petricka is back home at her townhouse in Eden Prairie, where she and her husband are looking forward to another growing season on their patio (her husband, a fabrication specialist, also works at Plantscape they met in art school).

“We use every inch of green space we have, from growing all our own herbs in the summer to container gardening for vegetables and tomatoes to flowers for the pollinators, bees and butterflies and hummingbirds,” she says.
